There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. That and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Valley Center's 28 - 7 win over San Pasqual last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Mateo Sinohui. Sinohui earned four touchdowns and 162 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Sinohui as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between Cathedral Catholic (1st in the power rankings) and Christian (10th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Cathedral Catholic took its contest against Christian by a conclusive 21 - 0 score. Cathedral Catholic was heavily favored coming into this contest, and the results showcase why.
No Stoppin 'Em
62. That was the combined point total for Vista and Westview when they went head to head last week, and it set the benchmark for all power ranking teams. Vista earned a pretty comfortable 41 - 21 victory over Westview. Despite Vista's win, the team was passed up by other teams in the power rankings and gave up one spot in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Granite Hills (11th in the power rankings) and Helix (5th). This will be the second home game in a row for Granite Hills. Only one team will win this week, so we'll see which team fails to repeat its success.
