The Florida Gators landed a key piece to their 2011 recruiting class when they gained a commitment from
Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.)
running back Mike Blakely
Blakely had a host of offers but in the end chose Florida over Auburn. He’s the No. 12 tailback in the country according to Tom Lemming.
The 5-foot-9, 195-pound senior played a key role in Manatee’s run to the 5A state title last season, rushing for 1,400 yards and 23 touchdowns. This season, he’s battled injury but has still managed to compile 12 touchdowns in helping to lead Manatee to a 7-0 record and the 23rd spot in the Xcellent 25 Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
Blakely’s announcement comes just a day after Venice (Fla.)
defensive end Clay Burton
gave a verbal commitment to Florida.
After striking out on other targets at running back, Blakely fills a major void in Urban Meyer’s recruiting class, giving him a dynamic threat in the backfield.
