Mitchell (12-1) and Cherokee (12-1) are battling to keep their seasons alive when they face off in a playoff match this Friday at 7:30 PM. Cherokee will need to watch out since Mitchell has posted big point totals in its previous four matchups.
Mitchell earned a pretty comfortable 45 - 25 victory over Robbinsville last week. One of the main ringleaders for Mitchell was senior Ben Young, who earned two touchdowns and 94 yards rushing the ball. If you haven't heard of Young, then you haven't been paying attention since he has loomed large in Mitchell's past 13 games. Senior Ben Robinson got in on the action, too, by scoring three touchdowns.
As for Cherokee, it has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling seven) after its most recent game. It took its contest against Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy last week by a conclusive 47 - 20 score. Senior Tye Mintz was especially active in the win, finding the end zone an impressive six times. The longest touchdown for Mintz was a punishing, defense-defying 80-yard dash in the fourth quarter.
The last time they met, Mitchell was the 45 - 14 victor. Mitchell ended Cherokee's playoff run with that win, so what better chance for Cherokee to pay the team back than this game? Repeat or revenge, it should be a great matchup.
