Union County is ten games into its season, but it hasn't met anyone harder than the team challenging it next. It goes toe-to-toe against Madison County this Friday at 7:30 PM. The timing is good for Madison County since Union County is limping into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Union County simply didn't have it two weeks ago, losing 49 - 7 to Taylor County. The team got a solid performance out of senior Charles Strong (he earned one touchdown and 121 yards rushing the ball); unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win. This marked the 8th consecutive game in which Strong had 100+ rushing yards.
As for Madison County, it can now show off eight landslide victories after its most recent game. It took its game against Rickards last week by a confident 34 - 12 score. One major factor in the win was the play of senior Derrick Staten jr, who ran for 157 yards and also punched in two touchdowns.
Union County's defeat dropped it to 6-4 while Madison County's victory brought it to 10-0. We'll see if Madison County can add another positive mark to its record or if Union County can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Madison County's step.
