2006 MaxPreps Oklahoma All-State Team - Defense
Most Valuable Player - Austin Box, Enid
Box was huge in his senior season for the Plainsmen on both sides of the ball. After a 7-3 regular reason for Enid, Box led Enid to the Class 6A state final game against Jenks after upsets over Tulsa Washington, Mustang, and Owasso in the playoffs. Box rushed for 1,086 yards and 15 touchdowns and threw for 1,938 yards and 13 touchdowns as the Enid quarterback. On defense, Box had three interceptions and registered 71 tackles. Box is committed to Oklahoma.
DL: Jontae Bumpus, Muskogee
Bumpus, an Oklahoma commit, registered nine sacks on the season for the Roughers. At 6-5, 225, Bumpus could be a major force at the collegiate level for the Sooners.
DL: Tony Gillespie, Jenks
Just a junior, Gillespie anchored the defensive line for the Trojans as they won the Class 6A state title. Gillespie had 83 tackles, eight sacks, and three fumble recoveries for Jenks.
DL: Kurt Baldwin, Bishop McGuinness
Baldwin was a major reason why Bishop McGuinness went 14-0 and won their first state title in school history. Baldwin had 146 tackles for the Fighting Irish defense, who pitched seven shutouts in 14 games in 2006.
DL: Tanner Shuck, Jenks
Shuck was a wrecking ball on defense for the state championship as an undersized defensive lineman. Shuck, at just 5-11, 225 pounds, had 120 tackles and 20 sacks for the Trojans. Shuck has received recruiting interest from Rice, Tulsa, and Navy.
LB: Shantell Mackey, Moore
In 10 games for Moore, Mackey had 164 tackles, 113 of them of the solo variety. Mackey also had two sacks and one interception for the Lions.
LB: Jared Glover, Bixby
Glover originally committed to Nebraska before opting to switch his allegiance to Oklahoma State. Glover was a major force for Bixby, getting 13 quarterback sacks while adding 86 tackles.
LB: Jared Horn, Muskogee
Horn had 155 tackles for the Roughers during their deep playoff run. When star running back Dre' Stout went down with an injury during the playoffs, Horn filled the void by rushing for four touchdowns in a 38-10 victory over Muskogee.
DB: Ryan Broyles, Norman
Broyles led the defensive unit for Norman, who won their first nine regular season games before losing to Westmoore and being upset by cross-town rival Norman North in the first round of the playoffs. Broyles had six interceptions for the Tigers. Arkansas and Oklahoma State are the leaders for Broyles, who is ranked among the top cornerbacks in the nation.
DB: Devon Oku, Carl Albert
Oku was a major force for Carl Albert in their quest to the Class 5A state championship. Oku had 75 tackles and three interceptions for the Titans.
DB: LaQuentin Black, Davis
Black was amazing for Davis in their semifinal run in Class 2A. On offense, Black had 1,738 yards and 38 touchdowns. Defensively, Davis picked off 10 passes for Davis.
P: Ian Harrison, Westmoore
Harrison averaged 41.6 yards per punt for the Jaguars, who went 11-1 in 2006.
