Gilroy might have drawn first blood against Pioneer on Friday, but it was Pioneer who got the last laugh. Gilroy were completely outmatched, falling 13-49 to Pioneer. The result was completely at odds with the teams' state rankings as Gilroy enjoys a hefty 255 spot advantage.
Senior Edgar Valencia, who rushed for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns, was a major factor in Pioneer's success. Junior Daniel Monticalvo was in the mix, too, providing Pioneer with 2 touchdowns.
The loss dropped Gilroy's record to 1-2. The victory bumped Pioneer's record up to 3-0.
Gilroy are packing up and heading on the road for the first time this season. They face off against Everett Alvarez in two weeks at 7:30 PM. Pioneer will have some time to rest before their next game, which is against Live Oak at 7:00 PM. Pioneer have bulldozed their previous 3 opponents, so Live Oak might have their hands full.
