MaxPreps.com Staff Report
MaxPreps, the leader in high school sports information and media, today announced the expansion of coverage into lacrosse. Initial coverage will be focused on traditional lacrosse strongholds in the Northeast.
According to US Lacrosse, the sport's national governing body, the sport is one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States as well as the fastest growing high school sport for 10 years running.
"Over the past three years, MaxPreps has become the dominant online source for high school sports information, with over one million unique visitors to MaxPreps.com in December alone," MaxPreps CEO Andy Beal said. "As lacrosse grows beyond its traditional stronghold in the Northeast, we'll be there to grow with it, celebrating the accomplishments of high school lacrosse players across the country."
Over 147,000 high school student-athletes participated in lacrosse last year, with over 200,000 players 15 years old or younger competing in organized competition all over the country.
"It shows how the sport of lacrosse just continues to grow by having an organization like MaxPreps showing a commitment to this sport," John Jay High School (N.Y.) head lacrosse coach Nick Savastano said. "There will now be a place to go get a report on every player, and that's great for the growth of the game."
"After being involved with MaxPreps for the last three years in football and basketball, lacrosse is a natural extension. To see the way they treat all athletes and teams as equals is what excites me about this," MSG "High School Weekly" producer and host Mike Quick said. "You know when MaxPreps is involved, they touch everyone in high school athletics, not just the superstars. Lacrosse coverage just became a whole lot better with MaxPreps' involvement."
Coverage begins mid-March, with complete schedules and scores for every participating team in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island, as well as the Northeast's prep schools.
