This Friday at 8:00 PM, Irvin (2-7) is pitted against Austin (3-6). Irvin has a win under its belt but has never won back-to-back; of course, Austin will be hoping to keep it that way.
Irvin's encounter with El Paso two weeks ago was a 26-point stomp, but the result last week was anything but. Irvin narrowly escaped with a win last week as it sidled past Bowie 32 - 29. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Jesus Aguirre, who brought his A game into the contest. He threw for 160 yards and four touchdowns.
As for Austin, it ended its game a good deal behind Andress last week, falling 34 - 14. The team got a solid performance out of senior Alejandro Cabral (he showed off his agility by splitting the defense to the tune of 138 yards); unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win.
The last time they met, Irvin was the 45 - 21 victor. This time, their match is expected to be much closer since they have similar MaxPreps state rankings (Irvin at 996th, Austin at 883rd). Will Irvin come out on top again? We'll soon find out.
