In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Pioneer got a 42 - 14 win over Monroe Central last week, and a key reason for the win was junior Jack Kiser. Kiser earned four touchdowns and 197 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Kiser as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
The battle between Carmel (ranked 8th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Penn (ranked 5th) turned out to be a somewhat underwhelming competition. Carmel had a lot of difficulties with Penn and took a hard 34 - 7 hit. As a result, Carmel fell three positions in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
It was another game, another high-octane performance for Columbus East last week (their 12th in a row). It had all the answers against Cathedral, winning 42 - 13. One major factor in the victory was the play of senior Jamon Hogan, who ran for 160 yards and also punched in one touchdown. Columbus East's success was rewarded with a seven boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Ben Davis (1st in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Penn (5th). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Ben Davis and Penn both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Ben Davis with ten and Penn with ten), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
