On Tuesday evening, January 31st the Wilson Area Warriors football team was honored by the MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard.
The event went down at the halftime of the Boys varsity basketball game. Kicking off the ceremony was MaxPreps representative Peter J. De Rogatis. Peter was honored to attend a historic event, as this was the first year in school history the Warriors won the state championships. With the team and coaches standing in front of an extremely enthusiastic crowd, it was announced that Wilson Area was one of the top ranked teams in the nation, placing number 45 in America. SSG Robin McWilliams of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard addressed the crowd and took the honors in presenting Head Coach Bret Comp with the MaxPreps Tour of Champions national rankings trophy.
The Wilson Area Warriors truly had a season to remember and to be honored as the 45th ranked team in the nation with a school attendance of just 700 students is truly amazing. They showed what teamwork and hardwork is all about as they came from behind by 13 points in the fourth quarter of the state championship game to beat Jeannette High School by just one point. When honoring schools such as Wilson Area, it truly makes for a special experience. We look forward to the possibility of honoring the team again in '08. Best of luck to the Warriors this fall!
