Campo Verde made easy work of Verrado on Friday and carried off a 48-14 win. Followers of Campo Verde probably expected little less of the team in a season in which they have collected three blowout victories.
Campo Verde got off to a slow start in their previous match, but they had no such trouble against Verrado and cruised to a 48-point first half. Meanwhile, Verrado couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 48-0 heading into the break. Campo Verde were outperformed in the second half 0-14 but had enough in reserve to walk away with the win.
Senior Matt Leazier, who picked up 148 yards on the ground and caught passes for 56 yards, was a major factor in Campo Verde's success. Senior Parker Nuzman was in the mix, too, providing Campo Verde with 3 touchdowns. The victory bumped their record up to 5-0. The loss dropped Verrado's record to 1-3.
Campo Verde will be staying on the road next week, facing off against Gilbert. As for Verrado, they will face off against Sunrise Mountain.
