Keep an eye on the score for this one: both Blooming Grove and Clifton put up some lofty point totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they play one another this week. Blooming Grove had all the answers against A Plus Academy last week, winning 48 - 14. Meanwhile, the final score between Clifton and Rio Vista last week was a 68 - 13 blowout in Clifton's favor.
After having lost a blowout to Mildred in its previous game, Blooming Grove was happy to get the victory over A Plus Academy. Blooming Grove's margin of victory (34 points) marked the biggest win the team has had all season. The triumph bumped its record up to 4-5.
As for Clifton, it had things more or less wrapped up by halftime last week having put itself ahead 47 - 13. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Marc Gutierrez, who brought his A game into the contest. He earned three touchdowns and 170 yards rushing the ball. Gutierrez has now scored at least one TD in the past five consecutive games. The win -- the team's 5th in a row -- brings Clifton's record to 6-2.
With both Clifton and Blooming Grove swaggering in after impressive performances, we'll find out on Friday which team will step up to teach the other some humility.
