Farmersville and Grand Saline meet up on Friday this week after opposite experiences in their previous matchups. Grand Saline took its contest against Quitman last week by a conclusive 38 - 14 score. Meanwhile, Farmersville ended its game a good deal behind Mt. Vernon last week, falling 42 - 26.
After having lost a blowout to Mineola in its previous game, Grand Saline was happy to get the victory over Quitman. Grand Saline's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but senior Carlos Aguilar led the charge as he earned one touchdown and 112 yards rushing the ball. Additional support came from sophomore Bryce Smith, a defensive powerhouse who racked up 15 tackles. The win got Grand Saline up to 1-8.
As for Farmersville, Farmersville's second-half bang in its game (20 points) was unfortunately just a flash in the pan after its slow start. The team got a solid performance out of senior Cade Twyford (he ran for 111 yards and also punched in one touchdown); unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win. The defeat brought Farmersville down to 6-3.
Can Grand Saline pick up its first back-to-back wins of the season, or will Farmersville prove too much? We'll see soon enough.
