The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks are back on top of the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Baseball Rankings as they continue to play well and get some help along the way.
Horizon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) helped the Mavericks by defeating last week's No. 1 team Harvard-Westlake in the first round of the Horizon National Classic Invitational in Arizona. Harvard-Westlake lost its second game of the season later in the tournament and dropped to No. 12 in the rankings. Horizon also defeated Hamilton, which dropped the Huskies from the rankings after getting as high as No. 5 last week. Horizon joined the rankings this week at No. 11.
Meanwhile, The First Academy kept any other ranked teams from moving ahead of Archbishop McCarthy when it won the National High School Invitational. The Royals were not ranked heading into the NHSI (although they had been ranked earlier in the season) and they enter this week's rankings at No. 6.
Pearland was one of the biggest risers, moving from No. 11 to No. 2. The Oilers are the top-ranked team in Texas. Eight teams dropped out of the rankings this week.

The Lancers move back toward the top of the rankings after West Catholic Athletic League wins over Bellarmine (San Jose) and Valley Christian (San Jose). Against Valley Christian,

The First Academy returns to the rankings after a first-place finish at the National High School Invitational

The Cougars went 3-1 at the National High School Invitational, falling 5-3 to The First Academy in the championship game. Clovis knocked off ThunderRidge (Colo.) 7-2, Gainesville (Ga.) 1-0 and Coral Springs Christian (Fla.) 6-4 to reach the championship game. 8. (17) Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.), 13-2
The Bears only played one game last week, defeating defending Central Section Division I champion Clovis North, 5-1. The Bears play a pair of games against Central (Fresno) and will participate in the Boras Classic in two weeks.9. (18) Mosley (Lynn Haven, Fla.), 16-1
The Dolphins defeated University (Orange City) 1-0 to capture the Spring Break Tournament in Orlando. Mosley also topped Seabreeze 4-3, Timber Creek 8-4 and Cypress Creek 6-1.10. (21) Lambert (Suwanee, Ga.), 14-0
Lambert remained undefeated in Class 6A play in Georgia with a 15-1 win over Chattahoochee, a 17-2 win over Centennial and an 11-1 win over West Forsyth.

The Wolverines suffered their first two losses of the season, falling to tournament host Horizon 1-0 in the first round of pool play before knocking off Flint Hills (Va.) 19-2 and Mountain View (Idaho) 5-0. Hanover picked up its second win of the season, defeating Monacan 9-0. Four Hanover pitchers combined for a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts.
