MaxPreps Top 25 national high school volleyball rankings

With four of the top five teams losing, unbeaten St. Francis (Wheaton, Ill.) moved atop the latest MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings.

St. Francis took advantage of a Sept. 6 round robin featuring three Top 10 teams when last week’s No. 1 St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.), No. 3 Dike-New Hartford (Dike, Iowa) and No. 9 Mother McAuley (Chicago) each went 1-1.

Dike handed St. James its first loss in 58 matches to run its own win streak to 40 matches, but then lost to Mother McAuley, which later lost to St. James. As a result, those three are ranked 8-9-10 in this week’s poll.

Wheaton has yet to lose a set in winning its first six matches.

Mercy (Louisville, Ky.) moved into the No. 2 spot by improving to 9-0 after beating Louisville rival Assumption on Sept. 8.

Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.) is the new No. 3 and Coronado (Henderson, Nev.) and St. Ursula (Toledo, Ohio) round out the Top 5.

Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) made the biggest jump in the poll going from unranked to No. 6 after starting 6-0.

Honolulu’s Punahou moved from No. 10 to No. 7.

New to the Top 25 this week are No. 17 Aliso Niguel (Calif.), Lake Catholic (Mentor, Ohio) and No. 22 Los Alamitos (Calif.).

Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) returned to the Top 25 at No. 25.
