Both Veritas Academy (8-3) and Emery/Weiner (3-6) have made it this far into the playoffs, but they square off this Saturday at 3:00 PM to determine who is worthy to move on. Emery/Weiner will need to watch out since Veritas Academy has posted big point totals in its previous nine matchups.
Veritas Academy can now show off eight landslide victories after its most recent game. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Castle Hills First Baptist last week, finishing up at 50 - 0. Veritas Academy is ranked 44th in the MaxPreps nationional rankings (many places ahead of Castle Hills First Baptist), so the decisive victory wasn't entirely unexpected.
As for Emery/Weiner, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's just how it played out between it and Giddings State last week. Emery/Weiner didn't have too much trouble with Giddings State in its last game, where Emery/Weiner won 68 - 52. Sophomore Austin Smith was especially active in the win, finding the end zone an impressive four times. This sound performance was nothing new for Smith, who has been a rock for Emery/Weiner in the past eight games. Additional support came from junior Ethan Williams, a defensive powerhouse who racked up 13 tackles.
The last time they met, the final might easily have been mistaken for a basketball score. Veritas Academy walked away with a 76 - 66 win. Veritas Academy ended Emery/Weiner's playoff run with that victory, so what better chance for Emery/Weiner to pay the team back than this game? Repeat or revenge, it should be a great matchup.
