MaxPreps National Team of the Week - Saginaw, Mich.
Saginaw (16-1) prevailed in a showdown of top-ranked teams from different classifications, jumping on Flint Southwestern Academy (15-2) early and holding on for a 74-66 win Thursday night.
The Trojans, No. 1 in Michigan's Class A, jumped to a 19-point halftime lead over Flint Southwestern, the state's No. 1 Class B school. Though they play in different classifications, both are members of the Saginaw Valley Conference, and the win afforded Saginaw a one-game lead over the Knights with just three games to go.
Defensive ace Bobby Lewis, who held Ohio State-bound junior guard Anthony Crater to just two first-half points, was also the offensive catalyst for Saginaw, leading all scorers with 19 points.
Flint Southwestern wasn't Saginaw's only big game last week. The Trojans went out-of-league Tuesday to get a 79-71 win over Pontiac Northern (13-3) behind 20 points and 15 rebounds from Josh Southern, a 6-9 senior headed to Boston College.
