It was a match-up high school football fans had waited all season for.

The 4A top-ranked Skyline Spartans taking on the No. 3 Issaquah Eagles in a KingCo showdown.

The game sold out two hours before kickoff and 4,200 fans filled the stands.

Too bad the game didn’t mach the hype.

Skyline continued its dominating season by crushing short-handed Issaquah 38-0. Issaquah coach Chris Bennett told the Seattle Times it was an “old-fashioned butt-kicking.”

Skyline’s defense continued to impress. The Spartan defense hasn’t allowed a point in seven games and has given up only eight points this season. Issaquah averaged 35 points and 388 yards of offense, but managed just 59 total yards.

"Everyone was expecting it to be a close game, but in the back of our heads, we wanted a shutout," Skyline lineman Grant Engel told the Times. "When we want something, we'll get it."

Skyline clinched at least a share of the KingCo’s Crest Division and earned a date in the league title game against Bothell, which clinched the Crown Division with a 19-0 win over Inglemoor, on Oct. 30. ESPNU will televise the game.

Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps, rated as the nation’s No. 1 junior passer by several recruiting services, passed for 322 yards and four touchdowns. He also reached the end zone on an 11-yard run in the first quarter.

Football: O’Dea Suffers Rare League Loss

Quinn Sinser kicked a 25-yard field goal in the second overtime as 3A No. 8 Eastside Catholic beat No. 7 O’Dea 17-14 in a key Metro League Mountain Division game.

It was the first time the Crusaders had beaten the Fighting Irish since 1993.

Eastside earned a spot in the Metro League title game against West Seattle. It will be the first time this millennium that O’Dea has not played for the league title.

A.J. Hostek blocked an O’Dea field goal attempt in the first overtime and Mike Bush intercepted an O’Dea pass in the second.

Basketball: Franklin, Garfield to Play at Hoopfest

Garfield and Franklin, two of Seattle’s biggest basketball rivals and two top programs, found a way to keep their rivalry alive.

Franklin dropped down from Class 4A to 3A and into the Metro League. The two teams will play in the King Holiday Hoofest at the University of Washington.

Franklin owns a 16-game win streak in the series, but Garfield has Tony Wroten, considered by some to be one of the top sophomores in the nation.

Soccer: Issaquah Wins Class of Champions

Kristen Maris scored in the 49th minute as Issaquah beat Eastlake of Sammamish 1-0 in a battle defending state champions.

Issaquah won the Class 3A state title before moving up a classification this year.

Eastlake won the Class 4A state title.

Nicole Eddings recorded the shutout in goal.
