4A Far West recap October 22, 2013
Douglas and South Umpqua played the most contested game in 4A Far West this week, with Douglas eventually emerging with a 41-38 victory. Jordan Shaffer threw for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 190 yards during the win.
The Trojans made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,625 from 9,509. The improvement was the result of a 41-38 victory over the Lancers last week.
Douglas' offense cannot be tamed this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Shaffer has thrown for 1,762 yards and 19 touchdowns this season, while Brandon Stewart has 23 catches for 454 yards. Shaffer also leads the league in rushing with 947 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Siuslaw takes on second place North Bend/Oregon Coast Tech.
Shaffer of the Douglas is only 53 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 122 carries Shaffer has accumulated 947 yard this year.
