The Spartans unseated Byrnes, S.C., who dropped to No. 4.

Before moving on to this week's breakdown, allow us to address the issue of how these rankings are tabulated once again. MaxPreps' National Rankings are not an "opinion poll" and simply compute raw data (scores, strength of schedule). While this system may not always reflect how teams would stack up against each other with 100 percent precision, the lack of human input is what makes our rankings unique.
The rankings also tend to paint a more accurate picture as the season wears on. Take a look back at the final version of the 2005 rankings.
