The strange recruitment of Rainer Beach football signee Emeka Iweka continues.
Iweka originally pledged to play basketball at Oregon State as a sophomore, a committment that turned plenty of heads.
Then Iweka turned into a football player as he grew into a 6-foot-6, 290-pound defensive tackle who can run a 4.9 second 40-yard dash.
He signed a letter of intent to play for Washington in February, but that might not work out, either.
The Seattle Times is reporting that Iweka will not be able to enroll at Washington because of academic issues.
His high school coach, Mark Haley, said he is exploring options for out-of-state junior colleges.
Iweka is still recovering from an Achilles tendon injury suffered during basketball season and may have to sit out his freshman season.
Football: East-West All-Star Game Saturday
The annual East-West All-Star football game is Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
The annual game pits 64 of the best recently graduated football players against each other. The team is divided into a West roster and an East roster, which has many players from the western half of the state to help fill out the team.
The teams are selected from Class 4A and Class 3A schools. Dave Ward of 4A champion Oak Harbor will coach the West squad while recently retired Bob Lucy of Curtis - the author of state titles in 1989, 1990, 1995, and 1996 - will guide the East.
Kennedy running back Nate Williams (West, University of Washington), Lancer teammate Kevin Freitag (West, Washington State), David Paulson (East, California), Kellen Kiilsgaard (Stanford), and B.J. Guerra (East, Washington State) are all headed for Pac-10 schools this fall.
