There wasn't a lot of overall movement in the power rankings this week, but with 14 teams changing position, that doesn't mean the week lacked for thrills. The action included a dizzyingly high 106-point combined score from DeSoto and Waxahachie.
Can't Touch This
DeSoto got a 59 - 47 win over Waxahachie last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Shundarion Ward. Ward tossed the ball for 451 yards and five TDs. That performance landed Ward among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Trinity Christian and Melissa, 4th and 20th in the power rankings, respectively. Trinity Christian snuck past Melissa with a 26 - 19 victory. Trinity Christian found its leader in an underclassman: Shedeur Sanders finished up with 256 yards passing and three rushing touchdowns, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players.
Movin on Up
It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 126-yard edge over your opponent, and Lamar had just that last week. It breezed past Richland with a final score of 38 - 8. One major factor in the win was the play of senior Jordan Williams, who rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by four, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
