5A Special District 1 recap October 22, 2013
Conor Nehl and Nick Hjelm provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Redmond. The connection was good for 55 yards, the longest such play in 5A Special District 1 this season.
Mountain View led the league in scoring this week after putting up 70 points on the Panthers. Nehl threw for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win.
He was 5-7 with 0 interceptions.
Creighton Simmonds provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Bend fell to Eagle Point. He completed 10 passes for 179 yards and also ran for 25 yards. Simmonds' favorite target this week was Quinn Fettig, who caught 5 passes for 110 yards.
Ben Peters was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Cougars topped Redmond. The 5-foot-10 senior forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Nehl put up the best numbers in passing as Mountain View beat Nathan Stanley's team. Nehl's favorite target this week was Hjelm, who caught 4 passes for 92 yards.
Mountain View's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cougars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Nehl has thrown for 1,185 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Hjelm has 35 catches for 623 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Brian Crum's team's Hjelm goes up against the Lava Bears' Jordan Neelon.
Next week's game between the Cougars and Bend will feature an aerial matchup as Nehl tests his arm against Neelon's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mountain View takes on Matt Craven's team. As it stands, the Cougars are in first, while the Lava Bears are in fourth.
There should be lots of points scored when Mountain View and Bend face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cougars comes in having scored 315 this season, while the Lava Bears have scored 136. Mountain View scored 70 points last week as it topped the Panthers.
