Atchison were fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Sumner Academy 56-20. The rankings were on Atchison's side, but they didn't forecast quite such a lopsided result.
The matchup started off well for Atchison, whose offense put up 41 first-half points. Sumner Academy wasn't quite able to keep up, scoring 14 to make it 41-14 heading into the break. Atchison put the match away in the third quarter with 13 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
No one put up better numbers for Atchison than senior Braydon Dame, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Atchison defense stepped up as well to lay out the quarterback four times.
Atchison's victory brought them up to 5-4. The loss dropped Sumner Academy back to even at 4-4. Both of these squads appear to be finished for the season, as they have no upcoming games scheduled.
