Irving (Texas) captured the lead on a touchdown with 1:00 to go in the fourth quarter to beat
Nimitz (Irving, Texas) 23-17 on Saturday.
After nabbing the lead on a
D'Angelo Allen touchdown run, the Vikings went into halftime with a 7-3 lead. The Tigers took the lead for good with a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 14 points in the third, Irving still trailed by seven points going into the fourth quarter. But six points in the fourth helped IHS pull out the victory.
A 24-21 Irving victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Irving, which was coming off a 22-20 defeat at the hands of Lewisville in its previous game. The loss was the third in a row for Nimitz.
Irving (3-1) will play a 5A Region I District 6 game against Bell next week, while Nimitz (1-3) will take on Turner also in a 5A Region I District 6 game.
