Last Friday, Empire were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap, as they fell 22-28 to Fox. Empire got a solid performance out of sophomore Mitchell Monteith, who picked up 51 yards on the ground and accumulated 109 passing yards; unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win.
Southwest Covenant had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They steamrollered Central 55-8. With Southwest Covenant ahead 44-8, the match was all but decided by halftime.
Southwest Covenant's victory lifted them to 1-0 while Empire's loss dropped them down to 1-1. We'll find out if Southwest Covenant can add another positive mark to their record or if Empire can shake off the defeat and take the spring out of Southwest Covenant's step.
