Licking County recap September 24, 2013
Watkins Memorial moved up to 256 from 288 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Licking County. The Warriors were able to move up by defeating Utica 48-6.
Licking Heights added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Heath, 62-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Hornets.
Watkins Memorial's dynamic duo of Ben Shroyer and Hunter Holton proved tough for the Redskins to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Shroyer threw for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns and Holton had 69 yards receiving. Alex Miles helped Watkins Memorial's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.
Jeff Severino's team's dynamic duo of Shroyer and Holton proved to be unstoppable against Utica, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Cody Farley was a passing and rushing force as Johnstown-Monroe lost to Granville.
Farley was the best running back in the league this week. In 41 carries, he ran for 166 yards as the Johnnies defeated Charlie Smith's team. Teammate Josh Kirkpatrick added to the ground attack by rushing for 18 yards.
Holton was the best receiver in Licking County this week as Watkins Memorial beat the Redskins.
Shroyer put up the best numbers in passing as the Warriors defeated Utica.
Johnstown-Monroe's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Johnnies feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Kirkpatrick has thrown for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while Marcus Nogaj has 8 catches for 122 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Newark Catholic takes on Watkins Memorial. As it stands, the Green Wave are in third, while the Warriors are in second.
The Blue Aces were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Granville defeated Johnstown-Monroe 26-13.
