Well, in 2007 the Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard found its way to Norcross High School to honor its boys basketball team and now a year later, we’re back again.
One of only three repeat Tour of Champions performers, Norcross High School was honored on a chilly spring day, Thursday April 3rd
, down at Thrasher Park, again.
The Mayor, coaching staff, and several other community members were very excited to host the 2nd
Annual Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard.
The entire community was thrilled to be recognized on the national scene. The trophy presentation was done at Thrasher Park, at an outdoor amphitheater, as a community-wide event. The Army National Guard set up a table nearby, and handed out commemorative Tour of Champions t-shirts, Guard hats, and Guard frisbees to the basketball team members and others in attendance. The athletes really enjoyed the hats the Guard handed out!
The Mayor of Norcross hosted the ceremony by welcoming the crowd, then awarding a proclamation to the team. The entire team and coaching staff were present in their matching warm-ups, and stood behind the speakers for the entire program (20 minutes). After the mayor made his own proclamation honoring the team, he introduced Steve Spiewak of MaxPreps. Steve explained MaxPreps National Ranking service and the Tour of Champions. He then introduced Major Raquel Durden of the Georgia Army National Guard. Major Durden made the National Ranking trophy presentation to Head Coach Eddie Martin for the second time in two years. After the trophy presentation was made, pictures were taken and the entire Tour crew visited with the team until they left for dinner.
Could the Tour of Champions be back for a third straight year in 2009?
