GEISMAR, La. - A big 28-point first quarter helped carry the Griffins to a 49-23 victory over
Woodlawn (Baton Rouge, La.) on Saturday.
Dutchtown scored on a passing touchdown, a touchdown run, a rushing touchdown and a touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the first quarter, DHS was up 28-0 at the half.
The Geismar school grew its lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. The Griffins scored three times in the third, including once on a rushing touchdown.
The Griffins raced to 28 in the first quarter alone and kept up the pace for the win.
The defeat comes as a step back for Woodlawn, who notched a 40-12 victory over Assumption in its previous outing. The win brought Dutchtown's winning streak to three games.
In a 5A District 5 game next week Dutchtown (5-1) takes on Catholic, and Woodlawn (4-3) will go up against East Ascension also in a 5A District 5 game.
