Braving a dark sky and a crisp temperature, Trevor and I ventured to the St. Xavier practice to see how they are preparing for Friday's showdown with cross-town rival Colerain.
One thing that stood out to me was how seemingly deep the Bombers are. I was watching some of their passing drills, and they were rotating snaps with several quarterbacks, and didn't miss a beat. That's one thing I remember from seeing them play DeMatha at the Herbstreit Challenge. They had five or six QB's warming up, and they all seemed up to the task.
I spoke briefly with head coach Steve Specht. I interviewed him over the phone in the summer, and was present for his post game interview after the DeMatha game. He is a total class act. He welcomed us to practice and was very willing to help us. It's no surprise why St. X. fans think so highly of him. Not to mention the fact that St. X. has been one of the best teams in the country under his watch.
I also got a chance to chat with Nick Brunker, who hosts 1360AM High School Football Game of the Week, and also keeps a regularly updated blog
on Cincinnati high school football. Nick thinks this will be a great game. Talking to him definitely got me even more fired up for Friday. And I didn't think that was possible.
Check back tomorrow. We are hoping to drop by Colerain, and maybe back to St. X. for some interviews.~SS
