When Gatorade and MaxPreps began a journey to find the nation's best pregame, during or post-game sports rituals, such an inspirational story couldn't have been imagined.
High School girls varsity basketball team girls varsity basketball team from Yorkshire, New York had a deep-rooted inspiration.
The team called its pregame tradition "For the Stripe."
In 2007, the school's head coach at the time, Max Payne, lost his wife Janet to breast cancer. She was an inspiration to the basketball team. In her memory, the team had a pink stripe sewn on their jerseys. From there the tradition was born and expanded to pink shoe laces, pink wrist bands, and to slapping the pink "For the Stripe" sign before each game. Pioneer's pregame ritual not only captured the hearts of many but it also earned the team the $5,000 prize as the winner of the Signatures Program fueled by G Series.
