WPIAL AAAA Foothills recap September 17, 2013
Hempfield Area's Joey DeFloria rumbled for the longest rushing play in WPIAL AAAA Foothills this season in his game against Connellsville last week. DeFloria scampered for 72 yards on the play and finished with 279 on the day as his team defeated the Falcons.
Greater Latrobe scaled the state rankings by moving to 281 from 333 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to make move up by defeating Fox Chapel 20-8.
Kiski Area's dynamic duo of Chad Kuhn and Patrick Turner proved to be unstoppable against Gateway, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kuhn threw for 50 yards and Turner had 50 yards receiving.
The Cavaliers' dynamic duo of Kuhn and Turner proved tough for the Gators to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Turner was the best receiver in the league this week as Kiski Area lost to Gateway.
DeFloria was the most successful running back in WPIAL AAAA Foothills this week. Ty George also contributed to the rushing game with 30 yards on the ground.
DeFloria was a force in the backfield as Hempfield Area beat Connellsville.
DeFloria provided a threat through the air and on the ground as rich bowen's team bested Dave McDonald's team. DeFloria's key target this week was Joey Hoffner, who caught 5 passes for 45 yards.
Kuhn put up the best numbers through the air as Dave Heavner's team fell to Don Militzer's team.
6-foot-1 quarterback Kuhn of the Cavaliers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 287. He has also thrown 3 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is DeFloria. The Hempfield Area star has 7 catches for 133 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Spartans' DeFloria goes up against Kiski Area's Joe Brungo.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when McKeesport takes on Penn-Trafford. As it stands, the Tigers are in first, while the Warriors are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when McKeesport takes on Penn-Trafford. George Smith's team has allowed 37 points this season, while John Ruane's team has given up 10. The Tigers allowed 7 points last week as they topped Norwin.
The Knights lost to McKeesport 28-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
