1. SEFFNER ARMWOOD (8-0) – The Hawks reached new levels of perfection last week, dismantling an outstanding Hillsborough team 46-7. Armwood quarterback Mywan Jackson ran for 156 yards and a touchdown, leaving Hillsborough coach Earl Garcia to say that the Hawks have no weaknesses.

2. TAMPA CHAMBERLAIN (8-0) – The Chiefs’ overcame a 14-14 halftime score against district rival Alonso to post a 35-21 win and earn the Class 5A, District 6 championship. Chamberlain quarterback Dontae Aycock was on his game, running for 175 yards and four touchdowns and throwing for another 105 yards.
Up next: at No. 3 Tampa Plant (6-1)
3. TAMPA PLANT (6-1) – The Phillip Ely Era has begun. With star signal caller Aaron Murray out with a broken leg, sophomore Ely made his first career start at quarterback. The result was a 50-14 win against Tampa Leto. Ely was 25-of-34 for 232 yards and five touchdowns.

4. ST. PETERSBURG LAKEWOOD (6-1) – The Spartans quietly have become the best team from the Pinellas side of the Bay. And quarterback Jacquez Jenkins is a big reason why. Jenkins threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns and accounted for four all together in a 45-14 victory.

5. TAMPA HILLSBOROUGH (5-3) – The Terriers remain one of the best programs in the Tampa Bay area. But Armwood made them look less than mortal in a 39-point dismantling that forced the game to be played with a running clock. Hillsborough still remains the favorite for the second playoff spot in Class 4A, District 11.

6. TAMPA ALONSO (6-2) – The Ravens played a game first half against Chamberlain but just did not have enough defense to keep it close at the end. However, the smart funds are on the Ravens to capture the other 5A-6 playoff spot.

7. NEW PORT RICHEY GULF (7-0) – The Buccaneers galloped to a 59-22 win against Hudson last Saturday. How? By rushing for 474 yards as a team led by Adrian Golden’s 250 yards and four touchdowns. Gulf is eyeing November 7 3A-8 district showdown against No. 9 Pasco.
Up next: at Zephyrhills (3-4)
8. TAMPA BAY TECH (6-1) – The race for the second playoff spot in Class 4A, District 11 is going down to the wire. Hillsborough is 2-1 in league play while Tech is right behind at 1-1. A win against district foe Middleton this week helps but a win against Hillsborough in two weeks puts the Titans in the playoffs.

9. DADE CITY PASCO (6-1) – A 30-0 rout of Land O’ Lakes Sunlake gives the Pirates two-straight shutouts heading down the late-season stretch. The Pirates’ offense, led by wide receiver Josh Johnson and running back Jamall Haynes is clicking at the right time of year.

10. LARGO (6-1) – The Packers bounced back nicely after their upset loss two weeks ago. In their 33-6 win against St. Petersburg Dixie Hollins, Largo defensive end led the way. He posted 10 tackles, four of which were sacks. He also blocked an extra point.
