There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Welcome
Houston was the better team in every quarter against Collierville last week and consequently the better team overall. Houston had all the answers against Collierville, winning 40 - 6. Houston did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. The win also thrust it into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 23rd spot.
Can't Touch This
Lausanne Collegiate's 41 - 14 win over University School of Jackson last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Eric Gray. Gray ran for 206 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Gray as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
Look Out Below
Bearden is a little down this week -- likely figuratively, certainly literally. The team fell five spots in the power rankings (the most of any team in the rankings) after its most recent contest. It received a tough blow as it fell 27 - 7 to Hardin Valley Academy. The defeat came about despite a quality game from junior Collin Ironside, who threw for 242 yards and one touchdown.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Whitehaven (13th in the power rankings) and Germantown (3rd). This will be the second home game in a row for Germantown. Whitehaven and Germantown can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
