Upperman took their match against Grundy County on Friday by a conclusive 49-20 score. The lopsided score is just par for the course this season for Upperman, who can brag about seven blowout wins.
Upperman started the game off right with 42 first-half points. Grundy County countered with 14 points, leaving the score at 42-14 going into the half. The Upperman defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the game.
Senior Blake Metzgar was the offensive standout of the match for Upperman, as he rushed for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Metzgar's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past eight games. Junior Donoven McCAllister was in the mix, too, providing Upperman with three touchdowns. They added further sheen to their flawless record, now 8-0. The defeat dropped Grundy County's record to 1-7.
Next week Upperman take on Macon County at 7:00 PM. Those two teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous games. As for Grundy County, they will face off against Sequatchie County. Grundy County stagger into the contest hobbled by seven consecutive losses while Sequatchie County skip in buoyed by four consecutive wins.
