Mountain Empire (Pine Valley, Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 16-7 win over
Escondido Charter (Escondido, Calif.).
The Red Hawks scored eight points in the first quarter. Mountain Empire scored on a touchdown run by
Vaughny Opel.
After taking the lead on a two-point conversion in the first quarter, ME led 8-7 at the half.
Escondido Charter's lone touchdown came on a 22-yard run by
Kyler Chumbley in the first quarter.
The Pine Valley school came in allowing an average of 27.5 points per game this season. The Red Hawks held firm on the defensive front, and kept the White Tigers right around the 4.8 points it had been averaging per game.
