Hempfield Area and Penn Hills are both heading into their Friday contest this week after losing their previous games. Penn Hills lost to North Allegheny 27 - 16 last week. Meanwhile, Hempfield Area and Altoona were almost perfectly matched up last week, but Hempfield Area suffered an agonizing 48 - 47 defeat.
Penn Hills put on a good show in the second half of its contest (the squad netted 16 points), but after a slow start in the first it just wasn't enough. The defeat dropped its record to 5-2.
As for Hempfield Area, although it is probably glad the game wasn't a blowout like its previous match against Bethel Park, the loss against Altoona was still frustrating. Even so, Hempfield Area did get a good effort from senior Justin Sliwoski, who passed for 316 yards. Senior Isaiah Diandreth was an active contributor as well and provided 119 receiving yards. Diandreth has been a consistent playmaker for Hempfield Area as this was the 3rd good game in a row from him. The defeat (the 6th in a row for the team) sunk Hempfield Area's record to 1-6.
Hempfield Area is looking to hand Penn Hills its first back-to-back losses of the season. We'll find out if Penn Hills can avoid giving it that satisfaction.
