Arizona State University made a formal offer to Canyon del Oro junior running back Ka’Deem Carey on Oct. 16 before the Dorados’ 35-7 Class 4A-I win at Tucson Flowing Wells.
Both Carey and CDO coach Dusty Peace confirmed the offer to MaxPreps on Monday. It is Carey’s first official offer.
Carey, widely regarded as the best running back in Arizona, leads top-ranked CDO (8-0) with 1,489 yards on just 122 carries (a 12.21 yard average) and 20 touchdowns. In three years on the Dorados’ varsity he has only played one game in which he failed to average at least five yards per carry.
On Oct. 2, Carey had 299 yards rushing and four touchdowns as CDO knocked off three-time defending 4A-I champion Scottsdale Saguaro, 44-0, ending Saguaro’s 37-game winning streak.
Carey said Monday that he won’t even think about his college choice until his senior season, but “it was cool to get that first offer.”
