This week, Wyalusing Valley (3-4) and Athens (5-2) square off against each other on Friday at 7:00 PM. Wyalusing Valley has been involved in three consecutive close contests, so it will be interesting to find out if that trend continues.
Having stolen a close one from Montgomery in its previous game, Wyalusing Valley got a taste of its own medicine against Troy. Wyalusing Valley was close but not close enough last game as it fell 33 - 30 to Troy. The team got a solid performance out of senior Creighton Edsell (he earned three touchdowns and 118 yards rushing the ball); unfortunately, it just wasn't enough for the win.
As for Athens, it can now show off four landslide victories after its game last week. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Holy Redeemer last week, finishing up at 52 - 7. Senior Zack Jayne was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he ran for 212 yards and also punched in three touchdowns). This marked the 4th consecutive game in which Jayne had 100+ rushing yards.
The last time they met, Athens hopped past Wyalusing Valley 42 - 22. Will Wyalusing Valley avenge its loss? We'll find out soon enough.
