The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday McCallum takes on Medina Valley in the first playoff game of the year. McCallum has been tearing up the end zone with big points in its last six contests.
McCallum has netted another blowout to add to its collection (now totaling seven) after its most recent game. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Reagan last week, finishing up at 61 - 0. Senior Maxwell Perez was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns). The longest score for Perez was a punishing, defense-defying 77-yard dash in the first quarter. Perez has been a consistent playmaker for McCallum as this was the 5th good game in a row from him. Senior Alex Julian banked an additional two TDs for the team.
Meanwhile, Medina Valley's encounter with Dripping Springs two weeks ago was a 41-point stomp, but the result last week was anything but. Medina Valley couldn't have suffered a more disappointing defeat as it lost by a narrow 34 - 33 margin to Alamo Heights. The loss shouldn't obscure the performances of junior Alek Child and senior Devin Johnson, though; the former threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns, and the latter earned one touchdown and 106 yards rushing the ball.
Medina Valley's defeat dropped it to 6-4 while McCallum's win brought it to 10-0. The two teams picked up some nice yardage in their most recent games (460 for McCallum and 462 for Medina Valley), so expect some excitement on the offensive end of the ball.
