Latwan Anderson may see the field early for the
Mountaineers.
At the U.S. Army All-American game, Tarblooders star defensive back
Latwan Anderson chose West Virginia over the Buckeyes.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Anderson excelled as a two-way star for this season for Glenville, which reached the Division I semifinal. He saw time at receiver and running back, but projects as a safety at the next level.
Many expected Anderson to continue the trend of Glenville stars playing for Jim Tressel at Ohio State. However, Anderson, who transferred to Glenville from St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) over the summer, selected the Mountaineers.
CBS College Sports’ analyst Tom Lemming noted that it was a good decision for Anderson, who may have an opportunity to contribute early for West Virginia.
Currently, there are seven former Glenville players on Ohio State’s roster. Glenville’s head coach is Ted Ginn Sr., whose son, Ted Ginn Jr., starred for the Buckeyes from 2004-2006.
USC reels one inIn the midst of speculation about Pete Carroll’s future with the program, USC won a major recruiting battle by landing Corona (Calif.) cornerback
Demetrius Wright.
Wright, rated the No. 13 cornerback in the country, made 68 tackles for the Panthers. He’s the top cornerback in California.
While landing Wright is a major grab by the Trojans, there’s still a great deal of uncertainty involving recruits currently committed to USC.
Proviso West (Hinsdale, Ill.) star wide receiver Kyle Prater was expected to enroll early at USC. Interviewed before the game, Prater declined to comment about his future. There are also rumors swirling that Mission Bay (San Diego, Calif.) star Dillon Baxter may be reconsidering his commitment as well.
Notre Dame and Michigan may be back in the mix for Prater and Baxter, respectively, if they decide to reopen their recruitment.
Hamtpon picks South CarolinaDarlington (S.C.) cornerback Victor Hampton chose South Carolina over North Carolina and Tennessee.
The one-time Florida recruit played at power Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) for most of his career before transferring to Darlington for his senior season.
The 5-11, 170-pound Hampton is the nation’s No. 16 cornerback.
Other announcementsTheodore (Ala.) linebacker C.J. Mosley selected the Crimson Tide. Cass Tech (Detroit, Mich.) star Dior Mathis, another one of the nation’s top cornerback, committed to Oregon.
