Adrian Peterson returned home on Friday night to
, where the southeastern Texas school honored perhaps its most famous alum by retiring his jersey.
With the Minnesota Vikings enjoying a bye week, Peterson and family attended Palestine's game against Pittsburg.
At halftime, Peterson was honored alongside former Olympic hurdler Sandra Cummings.
Peterson's No. 28 jersey was retired and the school presented him with a plaque commemorating his career at Palestine and the success he's enjoyed at both the collegiate and professional levels. In both his junior and senior seasons at Palestine, Peterson rushed for more than 2,000 yards.
In his final season, he averaged more than 11 yards per carry and was the consensus No. 1 recruit nationally before enrolling at Oklahoma.
