Colorado was well represented on the American Volleyball Coaches Association 2009-10 Under Armour Girls’ High School All-America Watch List released today.
Overall, 16 of the state’s top volleyball players were selected from among 383 nationally. From this preseason list, 48 players will be selected All-Americans, from which a first and second team eventually will be chosen (24 players).
Five-time defending Class 3A champion Colorado Springs (Morgan Broekhuis, Brianne VandeGriend and Hannah Walker) and 4A state runner-up Mullen (Kelsey Freeman, Allie Friewald and Rachel Keyes) each had three players nominated.
“The selection of these three girls is a testament to the hard work and dedication that each has exhibited to get to the level of excellence that they are at,” Mullen coach Vilis Ozols said of his players, in a release.
The other selections: Erica Denney (Grandview), Kendall Howard (Ponderosa), Mikinzie Moydell (Chaparral), Kate Oakes (Evergreen), Amy Parlier (Fairview), Shelby Schacher (Arapahoe), Kristen Sciacca (Lewis-Palmer), Kelsey Snider (Pomona), Erin Stock (Coronado) and Erica Winkler (Highlands Ranch).
