Stilwell is eight games into its season, but it hasn't met anyone harder than the team challenging it next. It has a chance to get its first conference win this week when it squares off against Hilldale on Friday at 7:30 PM. Hilldale is cruising in on a eight-game winning streak while Stilwell is stumbling in off of six consecutive losses.
Stilwell has to be hurting after the devastating 49 - 21 defeat at the hands of Sallisaw last game. The blowout was painful but not necessarily a surprise as Sallisaw is ranked 33rd in the state, many places higher than Stilwell.
Meanwhile, Hilldale breezed past Fort Gibson last week with a final score of 36 - 6. Junior running back Mikey Winston is on a great run: he rushed for 141 yards in the win, and that's his 8th game with over 100 yards rushing. Winston has been a consistent playmaker for Hilldale as this was the 8th good game in a row from him.
Stilwell's defeat dropped it to 1-7 while Hilldale's win brought it to 8-0. A win for Stilwell would reverse both its bad luck and Hilldale's good luck. We'll see if Stilwell manages to pull off that tough task or if Hilldale keeps its momentum going instead.
