LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Salesian (Los Angeles, Calif.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Mustangs beat Capistrano Valley Christian (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) 74-7.
The Mustangs were up 54-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Jihad Vercher to
Jamardre Cobb in the first quarter.
Vercher dashed for two rushing touchdowns during Salesian's triumph.
Ben Sukut made a difference for the Eagles. The freshman wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored 19 touchdowns on the season.
Vercher stood out for SHS in the win. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored 22 touchdowns on the season.
Capistrano Valley Christian's lone touchdown came on an 80-yard pass from Riley Babick to Sukut in the third quarter.
The Los Angeles school had given up an average of 11.8 points prior to the contest. The seven points that CVC ended with were well below its average of 31.5 coming into the game.
The loss comes after Capistrano Valley Christian defeated Southlands Christian 55-14 last week. The loss snapped the San Juan Capistrano school's 2-game winning streak.
