MaxPreps Top 25 Midwest high school football rankings

Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) moved up to No. 1 in the MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 this week after previously top-ranked St. Xavier (Cincinnati) suffered its first defeat, a 31-19 loss at the hands of new No. 2 Colerain.

MaxPreps Top 25 Midwest Football Rankings 1. (2 last week) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 2-0
The Crusaders crushed Covington Catholic (Park Hills, Ky.) 45-7 with no punts and a running clock through much of the second half. Gus Ragland completed 20 of 25 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, while Chase Pankey made eight catches for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Next: Saturday vs. St. Michael's College (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) at Lockland.

2. (4) Colerain (Cincinnati) 2-0
Posted an impressive victory over previously No. 1-ranked St. Xavier (Cincinnati), 31-19, as senior quarterback Kelvin Cook ran for 184 yards and two touchdowns and completed four of five passes. Tegray Scales made eight tackles.
Next: Friday at Trinity (Louisville, Ky.).

3. (3) Mount Carmel (Chicago) 2-0
Mount Carmel scored on its first five possessions to hand Morgan Park (Chicago) a 49-8 defeat. Senior quarterback Marko Boricich completed six of eight passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
Next: Friday vs. Bishop McNamara (Kankakee, Ill.).

4. (5) Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) 3-0
Stretched winning streak to 18 games with a 17-13 victory over Trinity (Louisville, Ky.). Tyler Redfern passed for 128 yards and 5-foot-4 Will King made a 60-yard catch. Defense allowed 35 rushing yards.
Next: Friday vs. No. 25 Carmel (Ind.) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

5. (6) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) 2-0
The Eagles flew past Buchtel (Akron, Ohio) 63-8, making 10 tackles for losses — including five quarterback sacks. Brett Kean threw three touchdown passes and Alex Stump snared three for 104 yards, two for touchdowns.
Next: Saturday vs. Woodson (Washington, D.C.).

6. (7) Cass Tech (Detroit) 2-0
The Technicians crushed Collegiate Prep (Detroit) 60-0 as Jayru Campbell passed for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Will White paced the defense with 13 tackles.

7. (1) St. Xavier (Cincinnati)  1-1
The Bombers suffered their first loss 31-19 against then No. 4-ranked Colerain. They gained only 213 yards due to a combination of sacks, penalties and bad snaps.

8. (8) Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) 2-0
Alex Malzone completed 11 of 14 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns during a 49-7 rout of St. John's (Toledo, Ohio). Jason Alessi had a 95-yard kickoff return.
Next: Friday at Carman-Ainsworth (Flint, Mich.).

9. (9) Pike (Indianapolis) 2-1
Quentin Moon made eight tackles, three for losses, during a 30-17 victory over Arsenal Tech (Indianapolis). Brent Lyles completed 14 of 27 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns, while Jared Ruth had six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
Next: Friday at No. 10 Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.).

10. (10) Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) 3-0
Defeated then-No. 11 Carmel (Ind.) 35-26, ending a five-game losing streak against the Greyhounds. Junior Max Norris ran eight times for 215 yards and three touchdowns. Two of the scores went 99 and 94 yards.

11. (12) Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.) 2-0
Defeated Maine South (Park Ridge, Ill.) 28-13 as Isaiah Campos ran for 123 yards and Ryan Graham passed for 137 yards.

12. (13) Ben Davis (Indianapolis) 2-1
The Giants rushed for 333 yards and Jamie Akin Jr. scored a pair of touchdowns during a 28-14 victory over North Central (Indianapolis).

13. (14) Blue Springs (Mo.) 2-0
Ian Brown had a huge game, completing 11 of 19 passes for 326 yards and six touchdowns during a 49-14 victory over Park Hill South (Kansas City, Mo.). Darrius Shepherd made eight catches for 229 yards and four touchdowns.

14. (15) Eden Prairie (Minn.) 2-0
The Eagles defeated Prior Lake (Minn.), 35-21. Ryan Connelly passed for two touchdowns, while Dan Fisher ran for 98 yards and a pair of scores.

15. (16) Totino-Grace (Fridley, Minn.) 2-0
Senior cornerback Michael Waters made seven solo tackles during a 28-7 victory over Edina. Junior Kez Flomo ran 18 times for 100 yards.

16. (17) St. Ignatius (Cleveland) 1-1
The Wildcats rebounded from an opening loss to defeat Mentor (Ohio) 26-6. John Thomas completed 10 of 24 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns, while Enzo Cannata ran 23 times for 110 yards.

17. (19) Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) 1-1
The defending Class 7A state champions took out their frustration following a season-opening loss by routing Morton (Cicero, Ill.) 68-7. Scott Andrews scored three touchdowns and a running clock was employed during the second half.

18. (18) Dowling (West Des Moines, Iowa) 2-0
The Maroons defeated Valley (West Des Moines, Iowa), 37-26. Junior Ryan Boyle ran for 202 yards and three touchdowns and the defense produced four sacks.

19. (20) Wheaton North (Wheaton, Ill.) 2-0
The Falcons posted a 40-27 victory over Geneva (Ill.) behind Northwestern University-bound quarterback Clayton Thorson, who completed 15 of 24 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Biegalski made five catches for 146 yards and one touchdown.

20. (21) Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) 2-0
The Griffins overcame four fumbles to post a 17-12 victory over Lincoln-Way Central (New Lenox, Ill.). Marcus Cosby scored on a 91-yard kickoff return.

21. (NR) Montini (Lombard, Ill.) 2-0
The four-time defending Class 5A state champions defeated previously No. 24-ranked East St. Louis (Ill.) 34-6. Alex Wills completed 17 of 23 passes for 160 yards and five touchdowns. Ohio State University-bound defensive tackle Dylan Thompson had three sacks.

22. (22) Xavier (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) 2-0
The Saints blanked Jefferson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) 44-0 as tailback Brendan Miller ran 14 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

23. (23) Homestead (Mequon, Wis.) 3-0
The Highlanders rolled past Port Washington (Wis.), 44-21. Nick Allen passed for 130 yards and one touchdown, while Vincent Wilkerson scored once on a run and once on a reception.

24. (25) Millard West (Omaha, Neb.) 2-0
The Wildcats defeated defending state champion Millard North (Omaha, Neb.), 24-14, before an estimated crowd of 7,000. Veteran quarterback Ross Drwal passed for 89 yards and rushed for 83 yards.

25. (11) Carmel (Ind.) 1-2
Playing a power-packed schedule, the Greyhounds were handed a 35-26 loss by No. 10 Center Grove
(Greenwood, Ind.). UCLA-bound wide receiver Austin Roberts had 11 catches for 168 yards, including an 80-yarder from John Lampe.
Next: Friday vs. No. 4 Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

No. 24 East St. Louis (Ill.) lost to Montini (Lombard, Ill.) 34-6.
