The prolific passer owned Georgia high school football and then went on to deliver Clemson its second national title with the thrilling last-second 35-31 win over Alabama. Now the 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback is a consensus first-round pick in this week's NFL Draft.
CBSSports insider Dane Brugler projects Watson landing in Jacksonville with the Jaguars' No. 4 pick. Other CBSSports insiders have the Clemson standout going to either the Buffalo Bills at No. 10, the Browns at No. 12 or Kansas City with either the Chiefs' 19th or 27th pick.
The versatile Watson claimed MaxPreps National Junior of the Year honors in 2012 after guiding
Gainesville (Ga.) to a Georgia Class AAAA state championship. He completed 273-of-412 passes for 3,775 yards and 47 touchdowns as a senior. He also rushed for 1,057 yards and 14 scores in leading the Red Elephants to the state semifinals. Watson set state records for total yards, total touchdowns, career passing yards and career passing touchdowns.
The 4-star prospect was regarded as the top-rated dual-threat quarterback by
247Sports coming out of high school.
