Country singer Buck Owens became famous "walking the streets of Bakersfield." Alexander Soto and Brice Royal hope to do the same passing and running on the football fields of Bakersfield.
The 51st-largest city in the United States, commemorated by Owens' hit song from the 1960s, boasted the top passing and top rushing performances in the nation last week, according to stats reported to MaxPreps.
Soto threw for 506 yards and three touchdowns for Golden Valley, however his team fell short in the Central Section playoff loss to Mt. Whitney, 59-28.
Royal and his Centennial team fared a bit better as they knocked off perennial Central Section power Clovis West 63-49 behind Royal's 424 rushing yards with six touchdowns.
