Galena (Reno) baseball coach Ron McNutt notched his 700th career victory on Monday as the Grizzlies rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Bishop Manogue (Reno) 6-5.
McNutt already owns the state mark for coaching victories, according to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association record book. He went 657-267 in 29 seasons at Carson (Carson City), winning state titles in 1979 and 1992.
McNutt took over at Galena before the 2009 season.
"I guess it means, when you play a lot of games eventually you might get there," McNutt told the Reno Gazette-Journal. "Is it special? Well, yeah."
Ryan Ford had a two-run homer, Cole Fenner added a run-scoring single and Jorge Medina and Alex Barajas scored on fielder's choice plays to help the Grizzlies rally. Beau Cullen, who had a run-scoring double in the fourth inning, set down the the Miners in order in the seventh to pick up the save for Galena.
