The former Stanford and Denver Broncos receiver was announced Monday morning as the new coach at perennial Colorado power
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).
The 49-year-old takes over for Rod Sherman, who resigned Dec. 22 after going 57-11 in five seasons with three state 5A titles.
Current Panthers running back
Christian McCaffrey helped lead Valor to at least one of those titles, as did current Michigan backup quarterback
Dylan McCaffrey.
Luke McCaffrey, the youngest of four boys, will be a senior next fall at Valor, which last season was upset in the state quarterfinals. Luke McCaffrey is a four-sport standout, having played football, basketball and lacrosse, as well as track and field.
Ed McCaffrey has never coached at the high school level, according to the
Denver Post.
"Ed has been a part of the Valor community for nine years, and now we're honored to call him coach McCaffrey," Valor Christian athletic director Jamie Heiner said in a statement. "In addition to the incredible experience he brings in developing athletes and their competitive skills, he has a heart for mentoring young men."
Said Ed McCaffrey in the statement: "I am committed to the Valor community and genuinely care about our student-athletes as I have prayed and cheered for them at every football game since 2009."
